Hi Guys,
We have been asked quite a lot about how to stop Robocalls. There is not a foolproof solution to eliminate them, but there are a few things that you can do to minimise the risk.
What are Robocalls?
Robocalls are automated phone calls that deliver a recorded message when you answer. They are commonly made by telemarketers, scammers, and other businesses to advertise products and services or perpetrate fraud. Robocalls can be a nuisance and most target vulnerable people worldwide.
Here are some ways to stop robocalls:
- Check if there is a national Do Not Call Registry in your country. This registry is maintained by the relevant authorities and is designed to protect consumers from unwanted telemarketing calls. You can add your number for free by visiting the relevant website or calling the appropriate hotline.
Note: To find the Do Not Call Registry in your country, you can start by searching online using keywords like “Do Not Call Registry [country name]” or “Telemarketing regulations [country name] - Use call-blocking technology. Many phone companies offer call-blocking services to their customers, and there are also apps that you can download to your smartphone to block unwanted calls. Some popular options include Hiya, RoboKiller, and Nomorobo.
- Avoid answering calls from unknown numbers. If you receive a call from a number you don’t recognise, let it go to voicemail. If it’s important, the caller will leave a message.
- Be cautious about sharing your phone number. Only give your phone number to businesses or websites that require it.
- Report robocalls to the relevant authorities. If you continue to receive robocalls despite being on the Do Not Call Registry or using call-blocking technology, you can file a complaint with the relevant authorities. The more complaints they receive about a particular number, the more likely they are to take action against the caller.
Please let me know if you need any help with this.
All the best,
Max
