Hi Guys,

If you are one of the 2.5 Billion users of Whatsapp, you should check out these privacy settings available to you in the Whatsapp Web version. These settings will allow you to secure your account better and also allow you to control what others see in your WhatsApp profile. It will only take five minutes and is well worth your effort.

Follow these instructions:

  • Log into your WhatsApp Web account using your laptop.
  • In the top left-hand corner of your screen, click the three dots that indicate the menu.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Scroll down the menu and select Privacy.
  • You can now adjust the following privacy settings:

Last seen
Here you can change who sees your last seen. Note, you will not be able to see anyone else’s last seen status unless you have yours turned on. Fair is fair 🙂

Profile photo
Here you can change who is allowed to see your profile photo. This setting is good from identity theft or catfishing perspective.

Read receipts:
For chats sent to individuals, you can switch this on and off. If it’s switched off, you won’t be able to send or receive read receipts. This feature does not work in group chats.

Disappearing messages:

You can set how long your messages can be viewed before they are deleted.

Groups:
Choose who can add you to group chats.

Blocked contacts:
Here you can block and unblock contacts from being able to contact you on WhatsApp.

Let me know if you need help with this or anything else.

All the best,

Max Roberts,
Incognito Privacy Care Team.
