Hi Guys,
Facebook has now fully rolled out end-to-end encryption for Messenger voice and video calls, so if you are a user of this application, I suggest you turn it on. End to end encryption means that your messages are fully protected using pretty much unbreakable encryption. Keep in mind this will only cover your messages when they are being sent and received ‘over the air and when they are at rest on Facebook’s servers. For example, though, if someone has spyware on your device, end-to-end encryption won’t help you as the person spying will see them on your device, so please make sure that you keep Incognito up to date.
End-to-end encryption is not enabled by default in Facebook Messenger, but it is straightforward to enable. Follow these steps to start an end-to-end encrypted chat with a contact:
- Open Facebook Messenger
- Tap the profile icon of the contact for which you want to switch on end-to-end encryption
- In the conversation window, tap their profile icon again.
- On this screen, under More Actions, select ‘Go To Secret Conversation.’
- The window will change to the end-to-end encrypted version of the chat
That’s it!
Let me know if you need any help with this or anything else.
Take care,
Max Roberts,
Incognito Privacy Care Team.
