ALERT: Is Your Light Bulb Spying On You?

February 10, 2020

Hey Guys,

Do you use Philips Hue bulbs in your home? If you do please upgrade your firmware urgently to protect against a newly found flaw that could give hackers access to your Wifi home network and any devices connected to it.

The attack in question exploits the signals sent between Philips Hue smart bulbs.  A hacker with a laptop and an antenna can trick the system into kicking a bulb off of the network, then implants that bulb with malicious code. If the user deletes the suddenly unresponsive bulb from the Hue app and attempts to re-pair with it, they'll spread that malware from the bulb to their Hue Bridge, the central Philips Hue control device which you wire to your router.

Philips has a firmware fix ready to go and you can download and install it from the settings section of the Hue app. Please do this urgently and please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you and talk to you soon.
