URGENT: Hackers Can Plant Malware On Your Android Smartphone Via NFC - Update Android Urgently

November 7, 2019

Hi Guys,

Do you know that your Android has a capability called NFC (which stands for Near Field Communication) which is a communications mechanism enabled by default in most Android phones, often used for contactless payments.

What is the problem?

A new flaw has recently been discovered that allows an attacker to install apps on your smartphone just by being physically close to you. If the attacker is standing close to you they could install spyware directly into your phone without the need to touch it. Truly terrifying.

What can you do?

1. Google have fixed the issue and have rolled out to this patch to all Android versions. (You can get it here) but depending on your device type it may take a while for the update to get to you. You can go direct and get the update direct from Google here - https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/2019-10-01#2019-10-01-details

2. You can turn off permissions for the NFC app to install unknown applications, which will prevent the NFC app from trying to install an APK. You can also turn off Android Beam in the NFC and Payment area of your Android device’s settings, while still leaving NFC on for contactless payments.

Please do let me know if you need any help with this or with anything else and also please feel free to share this tip with family, friends and co-workers.

Thanks,

Max Roberts,
