Hi Guys,
Most of us are already in the facial recognition AI database without consent. Every picture posted on the web has been hovered up and linked to your digital and physical fingerprint.
Clearview AI, a controversial facial recognition technology company, has been accused of scraping billions of Facebook photos to create a massive facial recognition database. This revelation has raised significant concerns over privacy and data protection.
According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), “Clearview’s facial recognition technology poses a grave threat to privacy, free speech, and racial justice.” The EFF stated that “the company’s massive database of faces and its ability to match them to photos and videos have been used by law enforcement to identify and track people without their knowledge or consent.”
Critics of Clearview AI have also voiced their concerns, with BuzzFeed News reporting that “the company’s technology could enable government agencies and law enforcement to identify anyone, anywhere, with just a single photo.” Similarly, The New York Times has described Clearview AI’s technology as “a surveillance tool of extraordinary power.”
Despite these concerns, Clearview AI has continued to operate and expand its database. The company has claimed that its technology is intended to assist law enforcement in identifying criminals and solving crimes.
If you are concerned about your personal data being included in Clearview AI’s facial recognition database, there are steps you can take to remove yourself from the system. Here are some helpful tips:
- Delete your Facebook account – Clearview AI has been accused of scraping Facebook for photos, so deleting your Facebook account may prevent your photos from being used.
- Remove photos of yourself from social media – If you cannot delete your social media accounts entirely, consider removing any photos of yourself from the platform to reduce the likelihood of your face being scraped.
- Use privacy-focused search engines – Switching to privacy-focused search engines like DuckDuckGo may help to reduce the likelihood of your personal data being tracked and scraped by Clearview AI.
- Support privacy laws – Pressure your elected representatives to support stronger privacy laws that protect your personal data from being harvested without your knowledge or consent.
While Clearview AI’s facial recognition technology has raised significant concerns over privacy and data protection, there are steps you can take to protect yourself. By deleting your Facebook account, removing photos of yourself from social media, using privacy-focused search engines, and supporting privacy laws, you can help to reduce the likelihood of your personal data being used by Clearview AI.
It is time to stop feeding the machine!
Let me know if you need any help with this or anything else.
All the very best, Max Roberts
