Hey guys,

Have you heard about or seen the relatively new Apple Air Tag? They are great if you lose your keys or your wallet, but they can also be used to track you with pinpoint accuracy. Let’s explore them and discuss ways to protect yourself from being tracked using one.

What is an AirTag
Apple AirTag is a small, coin-shaped tracking device designed by Apple that helps users find and keep track of their personal belongings, such as keys, bags, wallets, and other items. The AirTag is a small, lightweight device that can easily attach to your belongings using a keyring, strap, or adhesive. It communicates with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch via Bluetooth, allowing you to locate your lost item quickly.

Benefits of AirTag
One of the main benefits of the Apple AirTag is its precision tracking technology. Attaching an AirTag to an item can give you the exact location of that item within a few meters. This can be very useful when you misplace your belongings, as you can use the “Find My” app on your Apple device to locate your lost item. For example, if you attach an AirTag to your keys and misplace them in your house, you can use your iPhone to play a sound on the AirTag, helping you locate your keys quickly.

Another benefit of the Apple AirTag is its ability to track items even when they are not nearby. If you misplace your item outside Bluetooth range, other Apple devices in the “Find My” network can help locate your item using Bluetooth signals. If you lose your item in a public place, such as an airport or shopping centre, other Apple users can help you locate it even if they are not connected to your AirTag.

Risks of being tracked
While the Apple AirTag is designed to be a helpful tool for locating personal belongings, it is essential to note that it can also be used for illegal tracking purposes. For example, if someone places an AirTag on your belongings without your knowledge or consent, they could track your location without your permission.

Protect yourself.

You can take several steps to protect yourself from illegal tracking using an Apple AirTag.

  • Regularly check your belongings for any unfamiliar AirTags. If you find an AirTag that you do not recognize, you can remove its battery or contact the police for assistance.
  • You can enable the “Item Safety Alerts” feature on your Apple device’s “Find My” app. This feature will alert you if an unknown AirTag is detected moving with you.
  • You can also turn off AirTag tracking altogether by going to your Apple device’s “Find My” app settings and disabling the “Enable Offline Finding” option.

If you do find an AirTag go to the police straight away, as you have a level 10 stalker following you.

Let me know if you need anything at all.

All the best,

Max
