Hi everyone,
There’s a new malware, “Vo1d,” affecting 1.3 million Android TV boxes across 197 countries. This malware embeds itself in the system, enabling attackers to remotely download malicious software onto these devices. The affected models, like R4 TV Box and KJ-SMART4KVIP, use outdated Android versions, making them more vulnerable.
Vo1d doesn’t affect Google’s official Android TV software but rather those running the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). These devices didn’t undergo Google’s Play Protect certification, which helps identify and remove harmful apps.
How to Protect Your Android TV Box:
- Use Play Protect: Make sure you only download apps from the Google Play Store to ensure they undergo Google’s safety checks.
- Avoid Third-Party Apps: Do not sideload APKs from unknown sources, as these are often unverified and could contain malware.
- Keep Your System Updated: Always update your Android TV box to the latest firmware and operating system.
- Check Device Certification: Before buying a TV box, ensure it’s Play Protect-certified.
- Install Antivirus Software: Use reputable security software to scan your device for malware and other threats.
Stay vigilant and protect your devices. If you suspect malware, contact us for more guidance.
All the best,
