Hi everyone,
Happy Monday morning to you. I hope you had a great weekend. Everything is good here. Here are a few interesting things that popped up over the weekend 🙂
Data Breaches
Let’s start with the Canadian government. Here is what looks like the first of many cyber attacks to come, as a result of the recent hack on the Canadian Revenue Agency. The hackers have been able to obtain confidential information belonging to the Canadian Revenue Agency and steal approximately $6 million in funds. This is just the start, and I could happen to anybody, not just the government. Don’t fall victim to the millions of attacks that are sent out every day.

On the subject, of government data breaches, here is an article on how the personal details of over 800,000 Italians were compromised in data breaches as far back as 2022 by a private investigative agency. This means it was a private company that hacked the 800,000 accounts, for money. I wonder who paid them and how much they were paid.

Artificial Intelligence.
ALERT: Keep your eyes peeled :
Do you remember I sent you a video of what looks like, two people talking to each other? The two characters were artificially generated as well as their voices. This was an example of a deepfake, and now here is a news story about how the FBI is warning voters in America to watch out for deepfake videos involving their agency. Deepfakes are currently being used, so just keep your eyes peeled. Here is a link to read more
ALERT: Keep your ears peeled:
Remember, I told you about how cyber attackers were using synthetic voice clones to trick people into transferring money or revealing personal details? Here is a YouTube film, of a Bank of America customer handing over his username and password to a synthetic voice clone. This person received a call from his bank and it sounds perfect and you see what happens for yourself. Be warned.
Advice…
– If you are ever asked for your password over the phone, just hang up. A bank, or credit agency will never ask you for your password over the phone.
– Also, if they start asking you for different numbers from your password, this could be a multi-layered attack, where they call you several times and ask you for different numbers from your password each time. Eventually, they’ll have all of your passwords|
– If your bank calls you, tell them you will call them back. Go to the bank’s website find their number and call them back. This way you know it’s the bank.
