Master Your Privacy: Check App Permissions for Camera & Mic

Today, I want to guide you through checking and managing app permissions for your camera and microphone on your smartphone and computer. Ensuring that only trusted apps have access to these important features is crucial. Sometimes, we might forget to revoke permissions or be unaware that an app uses these resources without our knowledge. To make things easier, I’ve provided step-by-step instructions below for Android, iPhone, Mac, and Windows devices:

Android:

Checking App Permissions:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Look for “Apps & notifications” or “Application Manager” and tap on it.
  3. Select “App Permissions” or “Permissions” to view camera and microphone permissions.

Resetting App Permissions:

  1. To revoke camera or microphone access, tap on the respective permission category.
  2. Find the app you want to modify and toggle off the switch.

iPhone:

Checking App Permissions:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on “Privacy.”
  3. Select “Camera” to see which apps have camera access.
  4. Select “Microphone” to see which apps have microphone access.

Resetting App Permissions:

  1. To revoke an app’s access to the camera or microphone, toggle off the corresponding switch next to the app’s name.

Mac:

Checking App Permissions:

  1. Click on the Apple menu and select “System Preferences.”
  2. Choose “Security & Privacy.”
  3. Navigate to the “Privacy” tab and select “Camera” or “Microphone” to view app permissions.

  1. To revoke camera or microphone access, uncheck the box next to the app’s name.

Windows:

Checking App Permissions:

  1. Open the Start menu and click on the gear icon to access Settings.
  2. Select “Privacy.”
  3. In the left sidebar, click on “Camera” or “Microphone” to view app permissions.

Resetting App Permissions:

  1. Click on the name to modify an app’s camera or microphone access.
  2. Toggle off the switch to disable the camera or microphone access.
