If you are a Chinese national, this is a massive one. If you are not from China, pay attention to how easy it can be for your sensitive information to be leaked and sold on the dark web. This information was not stolen or leaked from a private company; this is directly from the police. And it makes it even worse; it looks like it was just sitting on the internet waiting to be found.
The original message was posted at Breached.to and states the following:
In 2022, the Shanghai National Police (SHGA) database was leaked. This database contains many TB of data and information on Billions of Chinese citizens and includes the following:
- Name
- Address
- Birthplace
- National ID Number
- Mobile number
- All Crime / Case details
We have verified that this information is legitimate and know it is currently on sale for US$200,000. At this stage, the database will never be recaptured. It is out there for good now. It is just a matter of time. The ramifications of it getting into the wrong hands is far-reaching as it exposes anyone on the list to identity theft and extortion. That’s not even thinking about the Chinese social credit score system.
