Hi Guys,

I hope you are well.

In the wake of the recent twitter hack where we saw high profile accounts being hacked into we have been asked by several of our users if there is a way to see if someone else has accessed their twitter account without them knowing.

And yes there is. Please follow these pretty straight forward instructions :

From iPhone or Android

  • Open the Twitter app on your phone and tap on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
  • Scroll down and select the ‘Settings and Privacy’ option.
  • Select ‘Account’
  • Select ‘Apps and Sessions’
  • Here you will see your current logged in session which will say ‘Active Now’.
  • Look below and you will see a list of currently active sessions. Do you recognise these sessions?
  • You can click on each of them and see the date, time, and location of the initial login, as well as which device was used for access.

From PC or Mac

  • Open the Twitter web page using any browser
  • On the left side of your Home page, select More
  • Scroll down and select the ‘Settings and Privacy’ option.

If you see a session listed here that you do not recognise it is likely that someone else has logged into your account without you knowing. If you see this please follow these instructions for all devices:

  • Tap on the session that you do not recognise
  • Tap on ‘Log out the device shown option’
  • When a pop-up screen appears, confirm your selection.
  • The session will immediately disappear from the list.
  • You can then continue to repeat these steps with any sessions that you’re not sure about.
  • If you are not sure about what session to end you can choose to logout from all sessions at once.

If you do detect any suspicious activity it is likely that your password has been compromised and you will need to change it urgently. To change your password please follow these steps:

  • Go back into ‘Settings and Privacy’
  • Select ‘Account’
  • Select ‘Password’
  • Type in your current password
  • Type a new strong password comprised of numbers, letters, caps etc.
  • Confirm the changes by selecting Save

Please let me know if you need any help with this or if you need assistance with anything else.

All the best,

Max Roberts,
Incognito Privacy Care Team.
