Hi Guys,
I hope you had a good weekend. Today is another good day in the fight against ransomware. The team at Emsisoft has released free decryptors for Astralocker and Yashma ransomware. You do not have to pay if you have been held to ransom with either of these two tools.
The developer behind Astrlocker recently said that he is closing his operation down with the following statement:
“It was fun, and fun things always end sometime. I’m closing the operation, decryptors are in zip files, clean. I will come back. I’m done with ransomware for now. I’m going in cryptojcking, lol.”
Note: Cryptojacking is a type of cybercrime where a criminal secretly uses a victim’s computing power to generate cryptocurrency.
The tools he released were very hard to use for the average person, but the guys at Emsisoft have made it easy.
You can download the decryptors from HERE and read the instructions on how to use the tools by going HERE.
If you are not already aware, ransomware is a form of malware that encrypts the entire contents of your computer using unbreakable encryption, which essentially renders your computer useless and your files inaccessible. The only way to gain access to your files is by paying a hefty ransom demand to unlock your digital life. Once paid, the attacker remotely lifts (most of the time) the encryption. The ransom is usually very high, starting at several hundred euros, and in some cases can run into millions of euros depending on what information is on the system.
Let me know if you need any more information on this or help with anything else.
All the best,
Max Roberts,
