Hey guys,
Have you ever opened your phone’s camera roll and been surprised by a picture you don’t remember taking? If you’re part of a group chat on WhatsApp, this may be the reason. By default, WhatsApp automatically downloads images and videos sent in a conversation to your device, which can be embarrassing if you’re not aware of what’s being sent in a group chat.
Additionally, downloading media from unknown sources can put your device at risk of malware. To prevent this, I recommend you turn off the auto-download feature in WhatsApp.
Here’s how to do it on both Android and iOS devices:
For Android:
* Open WhatsApp and tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
* Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
* Tap on “Storage and data.”
* Under the “Media auto-download” section, you can choose to turn off automatic image downloading for mobile data, Wi-Fi, and roaming.
For iOS:
* Open WhatsApp and tap on “Settings” in the bottom right corner.
* Tap on “Data and Storage Usage.”
* Under the “Media auto-download” section, you can choose to turn off automatic image downloading for mobile data, Wi-Fi, and roaming.
Note: If you want to download and view select images sent to you, you can still manually download them by tapping on the image in the chat.
Let me know if you need any help with this or anything else.
All the best,
Max Roberts
