Hi Guys,
I hope you are well.
Over the past year we have seen all sorts of physical devices being remotely hacked into. Everything from Internet connected home appliances such as coffee makers, fridge freezers and light bulbs to the more obscure things such as Internet connected adult sex toys (this actually happened and the only way to remove the adult toy once hacked was using an angle grinder or a pulse of electricity to short the ci!) have all been remotely hacked this year. Some of these stories have been hilarious and some utterly ridiculous but this next one is much more serious.
Security researchers at F-Secure were able to successfully hack a covid home testing Kit by remotely breaking into the testing software. Using a bluetooth vulnerability the researcher was able to able obtain several certified falsebtest results when the person being tested was confirmed to be 100% negative.
I am happy to report that the developers of the test kits have confirmed that this problem has now been fixed and that a security update has already been released.
If you are a user of the Ellume test kits please make sure you update any software or apps attached to them before using them again.
Please do pass this message onto your family and friends.
All the best and have a great day.
