Hi Guys,
Please be aware that we have seen a massive rise in sextortion scams over the past few days. We have also had reports from dozens of our community worldwide, so please be extra cautious and do not get fooled.
Sextortion scams are emails that pretend to be from someone claiming to have hacked your computer and installed malware that can record you on your webcam while you surf the Internet. The hacker also claims to have created a video of you watching adult websites, and they threaten to send the video to all of your contacts unless you pay an extortion demand. The hacker will often include your name and maybe a password from another account they purchased off the dark web. The scam can look very convincing, and it fools many thousands of people every day. The good news is that there is a 99.999% chance that this is a scam. Hackers send these emails to millions of people everything in the hopes of just hooking a small percentage of victims.
If you receive an email like this, please forward the email to me for our records and then delete the message straight away. Do not engage with the person in any way, as doing so will give them more incentive to continue perusing you.
Thank you, and please let me know if you need anything at all.
