Hey Guys,
According to reports, Acer, a prominent PC maker, has suffered another breach. A hacker claims to have stolen confidential data, including software files and presentations from Acer, which are being sold on a popular hacker forum. This breach is a significant blow to Acer’s reputation and another security risk for the company.
The hacker is reportedly selling access to 160GB of data, comprising 655 directories and 2,869 files. The stolen data allegedly includes confidential presentations and data about Acer’s BIOS system. The hacker has also posted some samples of the stolen data on the forum to prove its authenticity.
Acer has confirmed that it suffered a breach, stating that the attacker accessed one of its document servers for repair technicians. The company also stated that there is currently no indication that any consumer data was stored on that server. However, this incident could still have serious implications for the company’s reputation and its security posture.
This is not the first time Acer has faced such a security issue. In 2021, the company was targeted by ransomware group REvil, who demanded a $50 million ransom. In October, hackers attacked one of Acer’s after-sales service systems in India. These repeated incidents can harm Acer’s brand image and shake customer trust in the company’s security measures.
To prevent similar incidents in the future, Acer should review its security policies and practices. The company should also ensure that its employees are adequately trained on cybersecurity best practices and that all software and systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches. Additionally, Acer should conduct regular security audits to identify and fix any vulnerabilities proactively.
How can you stay protected?
If you are an owner of an Acer computer, it’s crucial to stay vigilant for security updates released by the company. Since the hacker claims to have access to source code, Acer must issue updates to eliminate the threat. Please remain alert for updates and install them immediately upon receipt to ensure your computer’s safety.
