Hello,

If you are a user of WhatsApp here are three things that you can do right now that will add essential extra layers of security to your account. I strongly recommend that you stop using WhatsApp until you do these things;

Turn on Two Step Verification
Once this is turned on any remote snooper will need to know your private 6 digit password in order to login to your account. Without this code they will not be able to remotely access your account. Follow these steps:

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Account
  • Go to Two Step Verification
  • Press Enable

Do Not Auto Save Photos to Camera Roll
When most people open a photo or video on WhatsApp, the media is automatically stored to their phones camera roll. This is big security risk as malicious code hidden inside the image or video file could activate as soon as it is saved to the phone. In 2018 Jeff Bezos phone was hacked in a similar way after he downloaded an infected video file that was sent to his WhatsApp account.

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Chats
  • Turn off Save to Camera Roll on iPhone
  • Turn off Media Visibility on Android

Do you Trust The Source?
I am not saying that you should not trust your family and friends but where did they get that film of the ‘Cute Cat’. Who or what (AI) originally made this video and does it contain malicious code? I would recommend you do not save or open any of the funny films or images that are always doing the rounds on WhatsApp. You can trust films and images made by people you know but outside of that you are taking a chance.

Let me know if you need any help with these settings.

Thanks and have a great day.
