Hey friends,

Hope you’re all doing well today! We’ve been tracking a serious privacy issue that could affect millions of people. Two well-known stalkerware apps, Cocospy and Spyic, have been found stealing personal data and exposing it to hackers due to a massive security flaw. These apps can secretly record your messages, track your location, steal your call logs, and even upload your private photos—without you knowing.

If you missed our last tips, we recently covered how hackers are exploiting Signal’s device-linking feature and why phishing scams are easier than ever with AI-powered tools like Darcula. Make sure to check those out in the Incognito app if you haven’t already!

What’s Happening?

  • Security researchers found that Cocospy and Spyic are leaking stolen data, making it accessible to hackers.
  • The bug allows attackers to steal personal information from any compromised phone—including messages, photos, and call logs.
  • Stalkerware like this is often installed by controlling partners, employers, or hackers to spy on victims without their knowledge.
  • The companies behind these apps haven’t fixed the flaw and aren’t responding to security warnings.

How to Check If Your Phone is Compromised

If you suspect your device has been infected with Cocospy or Spyic, here’s how you can check:

  • On Android: Enter ✱✱001✱✱ in your phone’s dialer and press call—this should reveal hidden spyware apps.
  • Check Your Installed Apps: Go to Settings > Apps and look for anything suspicious like “System Service” (a disguise used by Cocospy and Spyic).
  • For iPhone Users: Check if your Apple account credentials have been stolen and make sure no unauthorized devices are linked to your iCloud.

How to Stay Safe & Remove Stalkerware

✅ Enable Google Play Protect – This can help detect and remove malicious apps on Android.
✅ Use a Strong, Unique Apple ID Password – If you’re an iPhone user, ensure you have two-factor authentication enabled.
✅ Regularly Review Installed Apps – If you find anything suspicious, remove it immediately.
✅ Scan Your Device – Keep Incognito up to date on your device to detect spyware and hidden threats.
